More than merely producers of beard oil and other products, Beard.On was founded on a passion for beards! Founder Jeremy shares his story.
Tell us about yourself and your brand! Why did you decide to start it, and how has the journey been thusfar?
I’m Jeremy, and I founded Beard.On because I wanted to introduce high-quality, all-natural grooming products for men. I’d searched high and low in Malaysia for options, but had never found one good enough to use. This led to me buying my stuff from the United States, until I eventually decided to kickstart Beard.On!
What research and development goes into making your products? How did you first learn how to make your beard care and other personal care products? Where do you source your ingredients and materials from, and do you think that it contributes to the finished product?
My wife as well as my sister, who is a certified beautician, helped me with the formulation. We did a lot of research both online and offline. Additionally, we also did some sort of market research so that we could agree on a look and feel for our inaugural products.
Share five generalisations you’ve noticed people tend to have about bearded men, and why you would like to correct these generalisations.
I’ve noticed people generally assume bearded men to be rough, rugged, wild, messy, and lazy. I want to change this perception, so that people might start looking at beards as they did in the olden times. Back in the day, a beard symbolised power and respect. These days, however, it’s a rare fashion statement that not many can have!

My daily routine goes like this:

- Finally, I moisturise and style my beard with our beard balm. This seals all that good beard oil in, and keeps my beard neat and healthy!

What is the best compliment you’ve ever heard about your beard oil and other products that keeps you and your business going?
Many of our customers don’t know Beard.On is a local brand, and think it comes from overseas. This is because the quality of our products overall scream ‘international standards’. We couldn’t be prouder!
What are some misconceptions about beard care and beard maintenance that you would like to correct?
Beard care doesn’t have to be expensive, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. It’s very cheap, and it only takes an additional two minutes daily to get the ball rolling.
What is one thing you know now, that you wish you knew when you first started your small business?
I wish I’d known better who and what to Trust! I’ve learned to not simply trust people, because not everyone around you is there to see you become successful.
What are three key lessons you think other budding entrepreneurs need to know? Share these lessons with us!
I’d say:
- Manage your cash flow well and properly.
- Always improve and innovate.
- Always collect feedback from your customers!

How do you strike a balance between life as a small business owner, entrepreneur, and a family man?
There’s no such things as balance when you jump into this life. I believe in giving my full 100% in everything I do, whether at work or with my family. Nothing should be shared. And in line with that, I would say time management is key.
